Doraemon is an anime and manga series, originally a manga authored by Fujiko F. Fujio in 1969 in Japan. The Doraemon franchise came to India in 2005 when the anime aired for the first time. The manga is yet to be released. It has won the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards India two times in a row for Best Show For Kids (2013 and 2015) and was nominated in 2016 and 2017 edition for the same category. It is the highest rated kids' show with about 478.5 million viewers.[1][2] It is currently aired on Disney Channel.

The manga has yet to be released in India.
Anime[edit]
The anime has been airing on Hungama TV, which was the introduction of the Doraemon franchise in India.[3][4] Since 19 November 2010, Hungama TV's sister channel, Disney Channel India, has been rerunning the old dubbed Doraemon episodes which have already been broadcast by Hungama TV.
India dubbed episodes starting with the Doraemon (1979 anime) series. Later episodes of the Doraemon (2005 anime) series started airing on Hungama TV and Disney Channel India, starting in October and November 2013 as New Doraemon.[5] Several episodes of the 1979 anime version were represented again under the title Classic Doraemon on Disney Channel in January 2017.Doraemon is available on Amazon Prime Video India in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, although the first season is only available in Hindi.[6]
The Hindi-dubbed version is also aired in neighbouring Pakistan, where the show is also popular (Urdu and Hindi are mutually intelligible). In 2016, politicians and conservative activists in both India and Pakistan campaigned to ban the show from television because they claimed it 'corrupts children.'[7][8]
Since 1 January 2018, Hungama TV has stopped airing Doraemon and is now exclusively aired on Disney Channel.

Since 2010, there have been a total of twenty-six Doraemon movies that have been released in India; two of which received theatrical releases, while the remaining were TV Premieres on either Disney Channel India or Hungama TV. The first film to get a theatrical release was Nobita And The Steel Troops-The New Age which was a massive hit in Indian theaters.The second film was Nobita Aur Jadooi Tapu. Nobita's closest friend is Shizuka Minamoto, who also serves as his romantic interest. Nobita is usually tormented by the bullying Takeshi Goda, (nicknamed 'Gian'), and the cunning and arrogant Suneo Honekawa. A typical story consists of Doraemon using one of his gadgets in order to assist Nobita in various ways, often causing more trouble than he was trying to solve.
